BURGHLEY HORSE TRIALS, WHAT TO WEAR

The Burghley Edit: What to Wear for Cross-Country Day

The Burghley Edit: What to Wear for Cross-Country Day

There’s something about cross-country day at Burghley. The early start, the crowds heading out onto the course, horses galloping past and, inevitably, trying to dress for four seasons in one day.

For us, the perfect Burghley outfit needs to do three things: look good, feel comfortable and cope with a lot of walking.

So, this year, we’re keeping things simple.

The Cross-Country Look

The Waring Brooke Quarter Zip + Wimbledon Shorts + Personalised Welly Socks + Wellies.

Relaxed, practical and still put together enough for a day at Burghley.

Start with the Quarter Zip

Our Estate Quarter Zip is one of those pieces made for throwing on and heading out of the door.

The heavyweight organic cotton makes it an ideal layer for a September morning, while the relaxed, slightly oversized shape keeps the look feeling modern rather than overly traditional.

Wear the collar slightly open when the sun appears, then zip it up when the inevitable British breeze arrives.

Add the Shorts

For warmer cross-country days, we're pairing the quarter zip with our Wimbledon Shorts.

The shorter length balances the oversized shape of the quarter zip and gives the whole outfit a slightly sportier feel.

It’s a combination that feels very Waring Brooke: British country style with a contemporary edge.

And if the forecast is looking decidedly less summery? Swap the shorts for jeans or leggings and keep the rest of the look exactly the same.

The Burghley Essential: Welly Socks

If there is one Waring Brooke product that belongs at Burghley, it has to be our welly socks.

Pull them up just above your wellies so that the design — or your initials — can be seen.

Our personalised pairs can be created with your own initials, making what is normally the most practical part of your outfit feel completely personal.

And after several hours walking around the cross-country course, you'll be very glad you wore them.

Finish With…

Add a Little Knit

Finish the look with a Waring Brooke knitted headband.

It’s an easy extra layer to keep tucked in your bag and adds that final bit of colour, texture and Waring Brooke detail to the outfit.

Add your favourite wellies and a lightweight waterproof for the inevitable September shower and you’re ready for the course.

Come and See Us at Burghley

We’ll be back at the Defender Burghley Horse Trials from 3–6 September, and this year our stand has had a bit of a makeover.

We’ve been painting, building and creating our new Personalisation Station, where you’ll be able to choose your Waring Brooke piece, colours and initials with us before your personalised knit is made in our Nottingham factory.

We'll also have our new-season collection, Burghley favourites and plenty of outfit inspiration on the stand.

Stand H6

So if you're heading to Burghley next week, come and say hello.

And don't forget your welly socks.
